Phil JONES, Yachting Australia Chief Executive said, '2005 was an exciting year for sailing with many outstanding results by Australians at home and abroad. The finalists announced today feature many well known sailing personalities and several names which may well feature prominently in the future.'

Following an open nomination process which started in early February and the subsequent consideration by the Yachting Australia established Voting Academy the Finalists for the 2006 Awards are:

Female Sailor of Year Award

• Nicky BETHWAITE, Karyn GOJNICH and Helen IMPEY
• Jacqui BONNITCHA
• Lyndall PATTERSON
• Elise RECHICHI and Tessa PARKINSON
• Allison SHREEVE

Male Sailor of Year Award

• Mark BETHWAITE
• Darren BUNDOCK and Glenn ASHBY
• Peter GILMOUR
• James SPITHILL
• Nathan WILMOT and Malcolm PAGE

Sailor of Year with a Disability Award

• Lindsay DALMON
• Jamie DUNROSS, Colin HARRISON and Graeme MARTIN
• Colin JOHANSON
• Kellyanne ORIEL
• Paul BORG and Don SCOTT

Youth Sailor of Year Award

• Tom BURTON
• Klade HAUSCHILDT
• Belinda KERL and Chelsea HALL
• Sam KIVELL and Max TAYLOR
• Evan WALKER and Kyle LANGFORD

In addition the finalists and the category winners the following tireless contributors to yachting will be acknowledged for the their services to the sport. These being:

The winners of the four categories will be announced at the Gipsy Moth Royal Gala Dinner and Australian Yachting Awards 2006 being held in Sydney on 12 July. Yachting Australia's special guest of honour for the evening is HRH The Princess Royal who will present the Awards in her capacity as Patron of the Gipsy Moth Global Project.
