HARKEN International Youth Match Racing Championship 2006
Sydney, Australia

A flourish of additional last minute entries has seen event organizers at Sydney's Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club extend the closing date for applications for the ISAF Grade 3 HARKEN International Youth Match Racing Championship until 22 September.
Organizers will then sift through the entrants before announcing the field of local, interstate and international competitors accepted for the 2006 event to be held on Pittwater from 22-26 November. The event will be sailed in the club's one year old fleet of Force 24' yachts which are purpose built for match racing and extremely popular with competitors due to their lively performance.

Famous Champions

'The HARKEN', as it is known in youth sailing circles worldwide, stands out as one of the premier events for youth on the international match racing calendar. During its 15 year history it has served as a launch pad for a number of local yachting stars including dual HARKEN winning skippers James SPITHILL (AUS), Michael DUNSTAN (AUS) and Seve JARVIN (AUS).

This year's event, the 14th running and ninth consecutively with sponsors HARKEN, will see twelve teams of four crew with up to 320kgs of muscle compete in a single round robin followed by a number of repechage stages. The event will conclude with a finals round on the Sunday, providing a feast of exciting racing for spectators.
