Hamilton Island Farr 40 Australian Championship 2006

Defending Farr 40 Australian Champion Richard PERINI (AUS) will line up with twelve other boats this weekend 3-5 March, to crown the 2006 Hamilton Island Farr 40 Australian Champions. Racing will take place over the three days on the Palm Beach Circle off Sydney's picturesque Palm Beach and will be hosted by Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club.

Also being decided will be the winner of the Australian Farr 40 Circuit point score for 2005-2006. The point score is currently being lead by previous winner PERINI with Lang WALKER (AUS) and Ray ROBERTS (AUS) separated by one point for second and third places respectively.

Up to nine windward leeward races will be sailed with racing expected to the close in this competitive one design class. The fleet for this regatta will comprise of boats representing New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand.

'It's been a great season for us and we are looking forward to racing this weekend. Next on the list is preparations for our world title defence in Newport Rhode Island in September this year,' commented PERINI.

This season has seen the Australian Farr 40 fleet race since October 2005 and there has been seven class events this season culminating in the class Australian titles this weekend.

Looking To The Worlds

A number of Australian teams plan to travel to Newport, Rhode Island, USA in September this year to compete in the 2006 Rolex Farr 40 World Championship being hosted by New York Yacht Club. Defending champion PERINI and his Evolution crew will line up against a number of previous Farr 40 World Champions including Jim RICHARDSON's Barking Mad from USA and Massimo MEZZAROMA and Antonio Sodo MIGLIORI's Nerone from Italy. Lining up alongside previous World Champions will be European and North American Champions such as Bob HUGHES' Heartbreaker from Chicago, USA, Maspero GIOVANNI's Joe Fly from Italy, and Wolfgang SCHAEFER's Strunt Je Light from Germany.
