Laser Radial Central And South American Championships 2006
Punta del Este, Uruguay

The second day of racing at the ISAF Grade C1 Laser Central And South American Championships saw Brazil's Odile GINAID storm to the top of the Women's Laser Radial standings after an impressive day on the water in Punta del Este, Uruguay.
Racing as one of 24 women in a mixed Laser Radial fleet of 82 sailors, GINAID grabbed a highly impressive bullet in the opening race of the day and followed it up with 13th and eighth places to move up to fourth in the open standings and top woman. Argentina's Paula SALERNO also starred out on the water, scoring finishes of 4,2,20 to lie just a point behind GINAID in fifth place overall and second woman. A little further back Cecilia CARRANZA (ARG) lies ninth overall and third woman.

Things were going very well for day one leader Florencia CERUTTI (ARG), with third and sixth places consolidating her overall lead, until she black flagged in race four, a result which sees her tumble down the leaderboard until the discard comes into play.

The Yacht Club Punta del Este are hosting the Laser Central And South American Championships from 7-16 April. Ten races are scheduled for the series, with racing in the Laser Radial continuing until 11 April. The battle in the Laser and Laser 4.7 then gets underway from 12-16 April.
