After Argentina had dominated the women's Radial competition, yesterday it was the turn of the Brazilians to shine with COUTO taking the bullet followed by top junior Geison MÉNDES (BRA) in second place. Third place went to Cruz GONZALEZ SMITH (ARG), with another Brazilian junior Jucyan OKRETIC in fourth, and Peru's Luis OLCESE fifth.

DEL SOLAR Struggles

The defending champion, number nine in the ISAF World Sailing Rankings and top ranked sailor in the championship, Matías DEL SOLAR (CHI) will be slightly disappointed with a start of eighth, although there is still plenty of racing to come.

Other notable finishers were Guatemala's 2004 ISAF Youth Worlds bronze medallist in the Hobie 16 Juan I MAEGLI in sixth and last year's third and fourth place finishers, Julio ALSOGARAY (ARG) and Augusto NICOLINI (PER) in a disappointing 23rd and 28th place respectively.

In the opening race of the Laser 4.7 series, Venezuela's Daniela RIVERO took first place, ahead of Daniel LEMOS DONTES (BRA) and Rodrigo DE MORAES LOPEZ (BRA).

The Yacht Club Punta del Este are hosting the Laser Central And South American Championships from 7-16 April. The Laser Radial series took place from the 7-11 April. CLICK HERE for the results. The battle amongst the Laser and Laser 4.7 sailors continues through to Sunday.
