Winds are generally good if shifty but at the start of the first race a sudden lull led to a third of the fleet being DNS for failing to cross the line within the time limit.
The early lead belongs to Ashwynn DANIELS of South Africa with a consistent 2,4,1 start, but behind him just eleven points separate the next seven sailors. These include Antoine GERARD of Mauritius and Peter VAN OS of Tanzania - both representing fleets which are less than three years old.
Amongst the girls Mariem ZRIBI of Tunisia has taken a strong lead among the African sailors and is competing with a visiting Dutch sailor for the open girls prize.
