In addition, the organization's Nominating Committee has announced that Jim CAPRON of Annapolis, Maryland has been nominated to serve as President.
In October 2005 US SAILING amended its Bylaws to restructure the organization and dramatically downsize the Board of Directors, from 49 to 14 members, making it more nimble and efficient. Now, for the first time ever, the members of US SAILING will elect the Board of Directors. Members have the power to directly elect nine Board members, thereby building ownership in the organization by selecting the best people to lead the sport in the USA.
The President and three of the Directors are running unopposed. Members of the Board of Directors will serve for a three year term in rotation. Since all the Directors will be elected at one time, three will serve a one year term, three will serve a two year term and three will serve a three year term.
The election period for US SAILING's new Board of Directors will take place from 19 September-8 November 8 2006. Each active US SAILING member is entitled to one vote; each family membership is entitled to two votes which must be cast simultaneously using the same means. To make it easier for everyone, US SAILING will accept votes via its website as well as regular mail. The online election period is 19-8 November 2006.
Printed ballots will be available upon request starting 19 September 2006 via two ways:
- downloadable from this website
- by mailing a request to US SAILING at P.O. Box 1260, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
Mail-in ballots must be received no later than 8 November 2006 at 1700 Eastern Time to be counted. Please email the Nominating Comittee at email@example.com with any questions.
All of the candidates have been asked by the Nominating Committee to furnish a short biography and a brief position statement. The background information on each nominee was recently mailed to the membership and has also been posted on the US SAILING website at - www.ussailing.org/BOD/election.
