The response from all those involved has been fantastic and term four and term one of 2007 are filling up fast with schools rebooking immediately and new enquiries arriving daily.
"I wanted to let you know just what a fantastic day we had," writes one school teacher. "Rob and James were superb instructors, both were very patient and ensured the girls had lots of fun and enjoyed the experience. Thank you very much for the wonderful opportunity, our girls learned so much."
At the end of the one day programme children are asked if they are interested in pursuing sailing as a sport. The host club will be provided with details of those that are keen and have list of potential new members at their fingertips.
Club and school support has been fantastic with only one representative from each required to help out. Yachting Services Coordinator for Yachting New Zealand (YNZ), Sabra DAVIES is pleased with the enthusiasm from both yacht clubs and school teachers, and outlines plans for new trailer units nationwide.
"James BUTTLE of Sandspit Yacht Club offered tremendous support over the entire eight days the trailer was at the Club, introducing sailing to children from five different schools," says DAVIES.
"While this successful Northern unit continues operating, YNZ will commence planning and production of the central and southern trailer units. We hope to send a southern unit down to Christchurch in October for launch into schools at the beginning of term four this year. The central unit will travel to Wellington to commence the programme with schools in February 2007."
