IFDS Blind Sailing World Championship 2006

The New York Yacht Club has announced that it will host the IFDS World Blind Sailing Championships at Newport Rhode Island from 20-27 September 2006.
There will be Thee Divisions in the Regatta subject to International Blind Sport Association sight grading categories B1, B2, and B3.

All boats will be supplied by the organizing authority with the B1 and B2 categories competing in Sonars and the B3 category using J/22s. Teams will be made up of four sailors and racing will take place in Narragansett Bay in the vicinity of Newport Harbour.

There have been five previous worldwide blind sailing regattas conducted: 1992 Auckland, New Zealand; 1994 Fremantle, Australia; 1997 Weymouth, England, 1999 Miami, Florida, USA, 2002 Gargnano Lake Garda Italy, The number of countries participating in BSI regattas has grown from five nations in 1992 to 14 in 1999.
