Coldwell Banker Previews International will also sponsor an entry in the race. Its yacht will be sailed by a core crew of experienced offshore sailors plus Coldwell Banker professionals who will make substantial donations to Habitat for Humanity to gain a crew position. It is expected that the total donation to Habitat for Humanity from the race will be approximately $40,000. Habitat for Humanity has been the Coldwell Banker national charity of choice since 1993. Both Coldwell Banker and the Bermuda Race celebrate their 100th anniversaries in 2006. This marks the first yacht race sponsorship for Coldwell Banker Previews International. Coldwell Banker joins Gosling's Rum and the Bermuda Department of Tourism as major supporters of the Bermuda Race Centennial. The Newport Bermuda Race starts June 16, 2006.
'The Bermuda Race has been one of the premier ocean races in the world since 1906,' The Royal Bermuda Yacht Club Commodore Elect Andrew COX commented, 'but for several races now we have needed resources to add enhancements to the race without making the entry fees prohibitive. On behalf of the RBYC and the CCA, Commodore Ned Rowland and I welcome Coldwell Banker. Their generous support makes the video and iBoat Tracking possible. Their new contribution for the centennial along with increased participation from Goslings and the Bermuda Department of Tourism and the continuing contribution by the Rhode Island Yachting Authority will make our celebratory year even better, a classic to remember.'
'This is the right opportunity for us,' said Charlie YOUNG, senior vice president for marketing for Coldwell Banker Real Estate Corporation. 'We continually look for the right opportunities to connect Coldwell Banker Previews International to the luxury consumer, Luxury yacht owners have the financial capability of owning luxury homes and embrace the prestigious coastal markets like Newport and Bermuda. A second reason is that Coldwell Banker and the Bermuda Race celebrate their 100th anniversaries together in 2006 and, as a bonus, we were able to raise money for Habitat for Humanity.
The Bermuda Race Centennial Video presented by Coldwell Banker Preview International will be produced and narrated by Gary JOBSON. His working title of 'Race to Paradise: 100 Years of Racing to Bermuda' clearly indicates his vision for the film. It will take a historical look at the blue-water classic from its beginnings as the dream of Thomas FLEMING DAY, organizer and winner of the first race, and Ambrose GOSLING, RBYC Commodore for that first race in 1906, to the modern day rite of passage, a true challenge of sailing skill and yacht design for sailors of all nations.
Coldwell Banker Preview International will also present the Newport Bermuda Race iBoat Tracking System. Horizon Marine's iBoat Tracking system has been under development and use in offshore events since 2003 and features a self-powered transponder unit the size of a small laptop to transmit position and performance data via satellite to a home station where it is graphically interpreted and distributed via internet on the event's Coldwell Banker Previews International iBoat Tracking Position and results report. The 200+ boat fleet of the Centennial Bermuda Race will be the largest fleet to ever use the iBoat Tracking system.
