The sailing events and equipment selected for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games are:
- Heavyweight Dinghy - Finn
- Women's One Person Dinghy - Laser Radial
- Men's One Person Dinghy - Laser
- Men's Two Person Dinghy - 470
- Women's Two Person Dinghy - 470 Women
- Skiff - 49er
- Men's Windsurfer - RS:X
- Women's Windsurfer - RS:X
- Multihull - Tornado
- Star - Men's Keelboat
- Yngling - Women's Keelboat
The US Olympic Team Trials - sailing will be held 3-14 October 2007 in Southern California and Newport, Rhode Island, with the exception of the Yngling class, which has two separate non-Olympic Trials events.
Only sailors who are eligible to represent the USA at the Olympic Games are able to compete in the 2008 US Olympic Team Trials - Sailing. US SAILING has created a qualification system for the Laser, Laser Radial and Star events to determine the athletes eligible to compete in the Trials.
