Lilac Festival Regatta 2006
Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
The annual ISAF Grade 3 Lilac Festival Regatta kicks off the sailing season at the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club in Ontario, Canada. The Golden Horseshoe's first major regatta of 2006 for Olympic Class boats will take place on the waters of Hamilton Harbour on 13-14 May.
This annual regatta, formerly known as the Mother's Day Regatta, has been a mainstay of Olympic Class sailing on Lake Ontario for more than 15 years. Sailors will join more than 60 competitors to test the waters of Hamilton Harbour and enjoy a weekend of tough racing and social activities.
An ISAF Grade 3 event for the Laser and Laser Radial, racing is also scheduled to take place in the Byte, Optimst, Star, Finn, 470, 420, 29er, 49er and Yngling.
The Royal Hamilton Yacht Club has hosted sailing regattas since its inception in 1888, and is the home of Norman ROBERTSON, Canada's first Olympic sailor who competed in the Paris 1924 Olympic Games, finishing eleventh in the Olympic Class Monotype.
