After a slow start to the J24 World Championship, Luca, skippered by Alejo Rigoni (ARG), came through strong in the final days to claim the world title in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Rigoni was joined by Gustavo Gonzalez, Joaquín Duarte Argerich, Fernando Gwozdz and Sergio Armesto who all part the hard work in over nine races to take the title by 13 points.
Only one race was sailed on the final day with the competitors heading out early for the 11:00 local time start. But due to light winds the Race Committee postponed the race until the wind increase. Racing commenced at 14:30 and Mendieta, skippered by Francisco Van Avermaete (ARG), was ahead after the second leeward and having won the first race of the championship he won the last.
Tim Healy (USA) on 11th Hour Racing held the lead up until the penultimate day but he was disqualified in the seventh race and dropped to eighth place.
The only Peruvian boat, Guerrero, helmed by Luis Olcese, sailed a great championship and took a deserved second place.
