The senior fleet all raced the 1720 Sportboats like big dinghies - hard and fast, in close proximity. At the windward and leeward marks many battled to maintain control in almost over powering conditions. However O'LEARY of Royal Cork Yacht was the clear winner with three bullets in the final flight. Second and third place also went to Royal Cork as Mark MANSFIELD claimed second over Anthony O'LEARY.
The junior and girls' fleet sailed flat out as Ireland's young sailors faced the rough conditions. Going into Sunday Aidan MCLAVERTY of Kinsale Yacht Club looked well placed, however in the five race final he came third overall. It was George KENEFICK, again of the Royal Cork Yacht Club, who clinched the title in a tiebreak situation with second placed Ben LYNCH from Blessington Sailing Club. Rachel GUY finished as top girl in seventh place overall.
The ISA All Ireland Sailing Championship is sponsored by the Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company. In addition Viking Marine and Topper Sailboats, in a joint sponsorship deal, will supply all new Topper sails for the junior and girls' event which will standardize their fleet. Dublin Sea Tours are also supporting the ISA by providing a press/photographers boat for both days.
