Allied Pickfords Hobie Asian Championship 2006
Hong Kong

With only ten days to go, the Allied Pickfords Hobie Asian Championships 2006 is living up to its billing as the most competitive international sailing event in Hong Kong this year. The entry list stands at over 40, with a strong overseas contingent treating this regatta as the final warm up for the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar.

Within the headline Hobie 16 fleet, Hong Kong's hopes lie with local sailing personality Tong SHING and crew Kimberley LO, both medallists at this year's Asian Sailing Championships and strong candidates for a podium place in Doha. They will be battling against the current Hobie 16 Asian Champions and national sailing squad members from Thailand, Singapore, Japan, Korea and the Philippines. From further afield, current World Hobie 16 Grand Masters Champion Bruce TARDREW from Australia, and other top sailors from Fiji, Saipan, China and New Zealand, will join a solid list of local talent on the racecourse off Tai Tam Bay.

A record fleet of ten Hobie Tigers will also be out on the water, the first time this growing class has seen double figures. Anthony CHAPMAN will be returning from Thailand aiming to capture the title from 2005 Asian Champions Peter and Brenda DAVIES.

The event is supported by a host of sponsors, with a strong social schedule planned to keep competitors on their toes each night of the regatta.
