At the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships DB Schenker have worked quietly in the background ensuring that all logistics and shipping have been carefully planned allowing the teams to perform to the best of their ability.
Frank Vogel, DC Schenker's Perth Manager, has been guiding his team in Fremantle, "DB Schenker has a long standing reputation in global sports events. We have done events of this size and nature in the past and I guess with our global expertise we can conduct events such as this."

Over 1,200 sailors are competing at Perth 2011 with 79 nations represented in the ten Olympic events on show. As one of the biggest sailing regattas of the year, equipment has had to be shipped in from all corners of the globe. "The majority of the equipment for Perth 2011 has arrived via sea freight," said Vogel. "We've had 125 containers in total. Of which 123 were 40 foot and two 20 foot containers. It's a challenge which we master with our experts on the ground and dedicated team of three professionals looking after the event."

With such a huge operation planning in advance is vital but it hasn't always been smooth sailing for Vogel's team working at Perth 2011, "Our planning process starts out way before the athletes arrive and we have to make sure everything arrives in time for the event.

"We get very positive feedback from the team and we have some challenges to overcome. For example we had a mast flown in from Italy which was originally damaged on transportation from Italy. As a global team we managed to get it here on time considering it is overlength and a bit awkward to handle on an airplane. But everybody's been sailing and that's the priority."

DB Schenker Key Account Manager Luke Bardall added, "It's been a great job by Schenker Australia. They've put in a lot of effort to put this project together. There's a lot that goes in behind the scenes. They had to work with the DB Schenker network, which is over 100 offices, and through this network all the sailors were contacted and all the boats were brought in.

"We've got a lot of experience dealing with many of the teams already and it really helps in understand the needs of the sailors. The thing is to be competitive on price and make sure it gets to its final destination on time and without any damage."

All events depend on services that work quietly behind the scenes and with the new partnership between DB Schenker and ISAF more events will benefit from the expertise that DB Schenker provide.
