He finally won the event over Corentin Guegan and Gael Blanquart of New Caledonia. The victory confirms him as a new member of a select group of Tahitian sailors who may go on to higher things. A previous winner Billy Besson went on to win the inaugural multihull event at the ISAF World Youth Sailing Championship.
The Cook Islands will be pleased with their results, getting a sailor in the top ten for the first time through Jan Sijp and taking the girls bronze. Papua New Guinea, present for the first time with a very young team, were far from disgraced.
The event continues for a further day with some light-hearted team racing, but the event can already be seen as a huge success due to a lot of hard and imaginative effort by the Samoan hosts.
