The amount of wind necessary to race this new class is being brought ever lower, every year bringing bigger boards, fins and sails (up to 11 metres). However conditions were almost flat calm all week at Sopot, Poland so there was not enough wind for the Formula Windsurfing Europeans to count. An average windspeed of 8 knots is needed to enable competitors to 'plane' around the race course. Three races were needed for a valid event, and only two were completed in the men and one in the women.
The organisers of the Euro-cup series of events will be hoping to have more luck with the wind for their events across Europe later in the the year.

The Formula Windsurfing World Championships are likely to be held in Brazil at the beginning of October. Everyone will hope for more luck with the wind there.
