The team says it completed the measurement process for the boat on Wednesday. SUI 100 is the latest of the four America's Cup Class Yachts that Alinghi has built since the team was created in 2000 and it is the last ACC Yacht built for this edition of the America's Cup.
Design team coordinator Grant SIMMER (AUS) says the team is happy with the speed of SUI 100. 'We have been very pleased with SUI 100's performance since the launch on 17 March 2007. It embodies all the work that we have done in this class since 2000 and we have chosen it because we are very confident with the performance of this boat.'
Alinghi has never raced in competition with SUI 100.
On Friday, the team is expected to announce whether Ed BAIRD (USA) or Peter HOLMBERG (ISV) will be at the helm of SUI 100 when racing begins on Saturday. 'Both Peter HOLMBERG and Ed BAIRD have been working together and competing against each other for several years,' SIMMER said, speaking about his two helmsmen. 'We've asked them to do something really tough, to compete for that position while working together and supporting each other.'
The first race of the 32nd America's Cup Match is scheduled for this Saturday 23 June.
The America's Cup Match and Challenger/Defender Series are designated as ISAF Special Events. For more information on the America's Cup, the Louis Vuttion Acts and the teams competing, visit the official America's Cup website - www.americascup.com.
