Mistral World Championship 2005

Three races were completed yesterday on day one of the ISAF Grade W Mistral World Championship in Mondello, Sicily. The usual suspects are heading the men's fleet whilst in the women's one sailor has made a phenomenal start to the championship taking a clean sweep of bullets.
More than 100 athletes have gathered on Valdesi beach in Mondello for this championship and were greeted yesterday with winds of 18-22 knots which sometimes reached 30. There was gear breakage on both courses but the race committee completed the scheduled three races.

Nicolas HUGUET leads the men's fleet is in the lead of the men's fleet after a consistent day posting a third, second, and first place. Behind him in second is ISAF World Sailing Rankings number one Maxim OBEREMKO (UKR) and Piotr MYSZKA from Poland in third.

In the female category Blanca MANCHON from Spain had a blistering first day winning all three races. In second place is 2000 Olympic silver medallist Amelie LUX (GER) with Marina ALABAU (ESP) in third.
