The organizers expect at least six to eight skippers from the top ten in the ISAF World Match Race Rankings, and also five out of the top eight on the World Championship standings from the World Match Racing Tour. Amongst the line up is current world #1 Sébastien COL (FRA). The 29 year old helmsman of Areva Challenge is looking forward to competing and strengthening his #1 spot, as well as improving his World Championship standings.
Reigning ISAF Match Racing World Champion and also recently appointed Alinghi Match Racing Coach Peter GILMOUR (AUS) will also return to Lake Constance to defend his title. The two German entries through qualifiers are Carsten KEMMLING and Markus WIESER.
'This is a very special year for us, we have come a long way and want to continue in developing the event, the sport, and believe in a strong match racing future' said co-organizer Eberhard MAGG.
Match Race Germany attracts more than 30,000 spectators to Lake Constance every year, and in 2007 there will be even more to keep them entertained with a match race exhibition tent. Over 400 sq m the event sponsors will present themselves but also entertain the fans with a grinder contest and model AC yacht racing planned. The famous cultural programme will continue with concerts every night.
Match Race Germany is the only German stop on the World Match Racing Tour. Traditionally the event is sailed over a public holiday from 23-28 May 2007. The yachts used will be Bavaria 35 Match, with eight boats available.
