Expert Olympic Garda 2007
Riva Del Garda, Italy

The ISAF Grade 2 Expert Olympic Garda gets underway on Lake Garda tomorrow, with a host of sailing stars heading to Italy as the European season gets underway. The first starting signal will fire on Wednesday 14 March at 11:00 and from that moment to the end of the regatta, Trentino and Veneto's sections of Lake Garda will host a feast of sailing.

Sailors from 35 nations are competing on Lake Garda, including crews from New Zealand, Australia, USA, and Barbados. The top Italian sailors will also be looking to make their mark on their home waters. Amongst the top Italian challengers are Star European Champions Diego NEGRI and Luigi VIALE (ITA), Gabrio ZANDONA and Andrea TRANI (ITA) in the Men's 470 and Federico ESPOSITO (ITA) in the Men's RS:X.

Big names from the international field, new Star world #1 Hamish PEPPER (NZL) will be teaming up with Brad NICHOL (USA), Laser Olympic bronze medallist Vasilij ZBOGAR (SLO) and Laser Radial world #1 Evi VAN ACKER (BEL).

The International Jury will be chaired by Sergio GABISSO, Chairman of the Italian Sailing Federation, whilst Spain's Ion ECHAVE is the Principal Race Officer. The hosts Fraglia Vela Riva (470, Finn, Laser and Laser Radial) and Fraglia Vela Malcesine (Tornado, Star, RS:X and 49er) will plot the five race courses on Lake Garda.

The new Olympic Format will be used to decide the winners, with a Medal Race amongst the top ten competitors scored at double points.
