The Women's International Match Racing Association (WIMRA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Japan's Junko TAKANO to the Governing Council of WIMRA as the Representative for Asia.
Junko TAKANO is a Japanese national currently living in USA and working for Sony. She is a member of the Hayama Marina Yacht Club and through her membership there has been involved in the management of match racing events (including the Nippon Cup) since 1995. TAKANO has participated in a number of events on the women's match racing tour including Calpe, Spain and Hamilton, Bermuda since 2001.

When asked about her appointment TAKANO said: "I really look forward to contributing to promote women's match racing in Asian countries. I already have a good relationship with the Japanese match racers and organizations. I would like to establish the same with other Asian countries, too. I look forward to be a part of exciting WIMRA team!"

TAKANO joins the following Governing Council members:

Representative for Central and South America: Andrea GRAEL (BRA)
Representative for Europe (Scandinavia): Lotte MELDGAARD PEDERSEN (DEN)
Representative for Europe (non-Scandinavia): Claire LEROY (FRA)
Representative for North America and the Caribbean: Liz BAYLIS (USA)
Representative for Oceania: Katie SPITHILL (AUS)
