The Championships will serve as the principal qualification event for the 2012 London Olympic Games Sailing Competition, attracting 1,420 international athletes, vying for 380 places in the 10 Olympic sailing events.
In making the announcement Beazley said: "We would like to welcome Jack Wilkie to the Perth 2011 team. Jack comes with extensive cause-related and sports marketing experience. He also has first-hand knowledge of Fremantle and world class sailing events, having headed the development, merchandising and licensing efforts for the New York Yacht Club's 'America II Challenge' in the 1987 America's Cup Defence campaign.
"In addition, he was executive producer for 'The Walter Cronkite America's Cup Report'."
Commenting on his appointment, Wilkie said: "Perth 2011 is about to deliver an international Event that upholds the Olympic ideal and attracts the attention of an audience beyond sailing enthusiasts, in more than 80 nations. It is a privilege to be associated with the sailing legends who are part of the organising committee and to advance the sport of sailing."
