After the trial race yesterday afternoon, the opening ceremony took place in the panoramic Piazzale Solti in the medieval town of Castiglione della Pescaia. SENSINI, 2000 Italian windsurf Olympic champion and honorary sailing club member, presided over the inauguration, while students of the sailing school were carried the flags. Local authorities were also present.

At the end of registration 44 teams coming from 13 different nations and three continents had enrolled. A total of 150 competitors plus spouses and friends took over the club house and the surrounding sandy beaches.

Today racing began at 1400 hours local time with the first of the seven scheduled races. The Championship continues through until Friday 27 May when the victor will be crowned.

The Soling World Championship has been organized by the Club Velico Castiglione della Pescaia, in collaboration with the International Soling Association, the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV) and the committee Circoli Velici della Costa Etrusca.

The event has the patronage and support of the Province of Grosseto and the Municipality of Castiglione della Pescaia.
