Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship 2005
Southampton, Great Britain

Beth WILLIAMSON age 17yrs from Liverpool and Peter BIRD age 18 yrs from Glasgow have gained selection to represent Great Britain at the 2005 Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships in Busan, Korea during June.
The pair won their places during selection trials which took place in largs, Scotland during April. Peter has attended the ISAF Youth World Championship once before in 2003 when it was held in Madeira, Portugal. He had an excellent event but at just 16 years of age was against a tough under 19 fleet. Two years on and older, wiser and more talented he hopes to make his mark strongly on the fleet this and return with some metal!

Beth, on the other hand, is a first timer at the ISAF Youth World Championship and having moved upon an age group from the under 17 fleet last year will have a tough fleet to contend with. However she has shown her worth on the international scene with a fourth place at last years World Championships showing that when the pressure is on she can come up with the performance.

We wish them both the best of luck in what is billed as the 'Youth Olympics' of the sailing world and highly regarded as the most important of youth sailing championships. It is no coincidence that there is a high correlation between success at the ISAF Youth World Championships and success on the senior International scene, Ben AINSLIE, Chris DRAPER, Sarah AYTON, Nick ROGERS and Nick DEMPSEY to name but a few, are all past medal winners at the ISAF Youth World Championships and have all progressed to have extremely successful senior sailing careers. We hope that Beth and Peter can follow in their footsteps.
