Americans Top After Challenging Opening

Tornado North American Championship 2007

Miami, Florida, USA

Day one of the ISAF Grade C1 Tornado North American Championship was sailed on a bright, cool day with challenging northwesterly to north breezes in Miami, USA. Athens silver medallists John LOVELL and Charlie OGLETREE (USA) opened up with a 7,2 start to take the early lead.

2005 World Champions Fernando ECHAVARRI and Anton PAZ (ESP) scored a bullet in the day's second race and lie one point behind LOVELL and OGLETREE, in second place overall in the 34 strong fleet. Tied on points with the Spaniards are reigning North American Champions Oskar JOHANSSON and Kevin STITTLE (CAN), who were the most consistent crew of the day with 4,6 scores.

World Champs Fifth

Reigning World Champions Darren BUNDOCK and Glenn ASHBY (AUS), who won the ISAF Grade 1 Rolex Miami OCR over the weekend, took the opening race but then followed it up with a 13th to lie in fifth place overall.

The Tornado North American Championship is taking place as part of the Winter Circuit surrounding the ISAF Grade 1 Rolex Miami OCR.
