On Sunday 2 September East Fremantle Yacht club were proud to be one the nine Australian Yacht Clubs to formally join the ISAF Sail the World Event, with approximately one hundred Keelboat and Centreboard sailors participating.
On this beautiful sunny Spring day, young and old got out on the water and joined the world in participating in the sport they love. For many the celebration started with a delicious Fathers Day Breakfast in the Clubhouse. What a day!!!
What was it all about? You may ask. The ISAF (International Sailing Federation) held a worldwide event to commemorate 100 years of their existence, the aim being to get as many as possible out on the water and creating worldwide participation and a possible world record for mass participation in a sport.
After a glorious afternoon on the water, the sailors continued the celebration at the East Fremantle Club House with food, drinks, fun and the sailors received a special ISAF certificate to acknowledge their participation in this special event.
Thank you again for helping ISAF celebrate 100 years of sailing - let's get out there and Sail the World!
"I am very proud to be President of the International Sailing Federation as we celebrate 100 years. What is evident is that the past one hundred years mark a period of vibrant and exciting growth for sailing. A period when the spirit of solidarity, friendship and passion for sailing has prevailed over borders, religions, genders and cultures. This weekend of 1-2 September, the "Sail the World" celebrations capture the very spirit of sailing. I am delighted at the number of events, clubs and classes all over the world partnering with ISAF as we join together to "Sail the World."'
