ISAF Team Racing World Championship 2007
Gandia, Spain

Teams from the USA and Great Britain continued to make the running as the quarter-finalists were decided on day four of the ISAF Team Racing World Championship in Gandia, Spain.
Friday was another tough day for the Race Committee, headed by PRO Rafa GONZALEZ, who had to work hard to finish all the scheduled races. The wind decreased in intensity after 14:30 and the races were postponed until better winds arrived. Around 16:30 the breeze picked up again and the Race Committee got things underway again.

Series two of round robin three was not quite completed but, even with some races remaining, all the quarter-finals positions are established. After two losses on Thursday USA 1 were back at the top of their game on Friday and ended the day with the best score ahead of their compatriots USA 2. Only one team from each nation goes through to the knockout stage, so USA 2 missed out and the other qualifying teams were GBR 2, AUS 3, NZL 1, IRL 1, ESP 2, ITA 1 and JPN 1. The only the doubt is which of the Spanish teams will advance to the Under 21 league, ESP1 or ESP 3.

Friday was a complicated day with the wind influencing the scheduling, but 46 races were finished. USA 1 were always ahead of the other teams, with five victories per one loss in the RR3. GBR 2 are also well positioned and advance to the quarter-final looking strong. Both teams raced together in the morning, in what could be the final, with the Americans looking stronger and more tactically astute than the British.

The wind conditions will influence Saturday's racing, with the warning signal an hour earlier (10:00) in order to try to finish all the schedule including the quarter-finals. If there is not sufficient time or wind, there will only be semis and the finals. In the Open category there will be competitions to the best of three races and in the Under 21 there will be a league with the best five Under 21 teams in it.

The Closing Ceremony is scheduled for 17:00 tomorrow.
