From 6 to 17 September 2008, the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games will take place in Beijing, China. Around 3,500 media representatives are expected to cover the Games.
In the course of the preparation for this unique event, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the Beijing 2008 Organizing Committee (BOCOG) are collaborating to ensure a successful media accreditation process.
After the Paralympic Games in Athens 2004 and Torino 2006, it is the third time in the history of the Paralympics, that the media accreditation process for the Paralympics will be managed similarly to that of the Olympic Games. This means that the main contact for media accreditation will be the National Paralympic Committees (NPCs), who will have a broader scope of responsibility in facilitating the accreditation process for national media agencies and individuals. The aim of this increased involvement by NPCs is to enhance the media coverage of the Paralympics. BOCOG and the host broadcaster for the Beijing 2008 Paralympics, the Beijing Olympic Broadcasting Co., Ltd (BOB), will manage the accreditation process for rights holding broadcasters. The large news agencies as well as non-rights holding broadcasters will be approached directly by the IPC.
BOCOG is currently distributing the Press by Number Accreditation Application Forms and further information to all NPCs, which will forward the material to all interested media organizations.
More information about the accreditation process for written and photographic press, non-rights holding radio and television broadcasting companies and Internet journalists (PRS) as well as rights-holding broadcasters can be found by clicking here
or the official website of BOCOG at www.beijing2008.com
