Calais Round Britain Race 2005

Winner of the recent Vendée Globe, Vincent RIOU (FRA) also won the first Calais Round Britain Race back in 2003. He has accepted to be the guest sponsor of this second edition and will be keenly watching the race, as he will be commenting daily on the race on the official race website.

RIOU's views on the race, which starts from Calais Beach, France on 22 May, can be read on the race website.

After victory in the Vendée Globe RIOU was delighted to join the team covering the race, 'it is with great pleasure that I agreed to be the guest sponsor of the Calais Round Britain Race. I love this race, firstly because I have fond memories of it, but also because this event has in my opinion a real future in the Imoca class programme. I'm rather disappointed that I won't be able to take part this year, but it's simply because my boat has been sold [while he waits to get back at the helm of a new 60-foot Open, RIOU is currently sailing alongside Michel DESJOYEAUX aboard the Géant trimaran - Ed]. I shall be following the race closely from dry land '

On 27 May, RIOU will be present at the Calais Round Britain Race HQ to take part in the lunchtime radio session. He will also be presenting his film on the Vendée Globe at the Maritime Film Festival, which will be taking place from 26-30 May in Calais.
