Garda Setting Records For Skiff Sailing In 2009

49er and 29er World Championships

Lake Garda, Italy

Preliminary entries for the 9er Worlds: 49er and 29er and 29erXX Gold Cup are proving to break all-time records.

With entries still being accepted, the 49er Class expects to hit 100 boats and the 29er class 200 entries. Meanwhile the 29erXX has attracted top attention and should top 20 entries for the latest double-trapeze skiff based on the 29er platform. Between the three classes, 27 countries are represented from all areas of the World.

Defending World Champions in the 29er, Steven THOMAS of Australia is returning as is ladies champion Annemiek BEKKERING of The Netherlands. Last year's Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship gold medallist in the 29er James PETERS (GBR) has moved up to the 49er and will compete with Olympian and reigning World Champion Nathan OUTTERIDGE of Australia.

The 9er events are scheduled at Lake Garda for:

49er World Championship, 12-19 July
29erXX Gold Cup, 14-16 July
29er World Championship, 19-25 July
