After a two-year long break, Marie BJORLING - Sweden's former world #1 match racer and wildcard entry for this year's ISAF Women's Match Racing World Championship in Lysekil this July - has proved that she is still a force to count with scoring victory ay the ISAF Grade 1 Troia Portugal Women Cup last weekend.
With a match result of 17 wins and just one loss, Marie BJORLING
(SWE) showed she is rediscovering the form that made her the world #1 ranked Women's Match Racer from July 2001-September 2004. After winning the qualifier regatta to earn the final wildcard spot for this year's World Championship in Lysekil, Sweden, from 27 July to 1 August, the Swedish skipper is already demonstrating how much of a dangerous player she will against the established elite.
"The team has come together nicely,"
said BJORLING after her victory. "Our decisions were fast and good. We had to fight hard to win our first matches but later on our victories came easier and we only lost one match out of 18. There was a lot of current and quite shifty conditions, which is also the case in Lysekil. We did well in these conditions, which is a great advantage for the coming World Championship in Lysekil."
