The duel at the top of the Laser fleet continues with Australian Tom SLINGSBY holding on to first just three points ahead of 2004 Olympic bronze medallist Vasilij ZBOGAR who finished first and second in yesterdays races to close the gap. Aron IOLIC (CRO) had a bad day posting a tenth and a 15 but hangs on to third place by just four points from Italian Diego NEGRI - everything to place for in today's final race.
Gabio ZANDONA and Francesco DELLA TORRE (ITA) stamped their mark on the men's 470 fleet at this championship again with a sixth and another bullet yesterday to remain on top of the leaderboard but a first and a second from fellow Italians Enrico FONDA and Pietro ZUKKETTI sees them leapfrog up to second from fourth just four points behind. In the women's fleet however there is no doubt who is going home with the top prize. The Austrian team of Sylvia VOGL and Carlonia FLATSCHER posted another bullet - their ninth from eleven races - and a second to go into the final day with just eleven pointsl Second placed Lauren JEFFRIES and Rike ZIEGELMAYER (AUS) also have a comfortable cushion over third placed Olympic gold medallist in the Europe, Siren SUNDBY and her crew Karianne MELLEBY (NOR).
It is a similar story for the Sibello brothers (ITA) who posted a further three bullets yesterday. They go into the final day with 12 points having posted ten bullets, two seconds and a dnf. Over in the Yngling fleet, Sally BARKOW, Debbie CAPOZZI and Carrie HOWE (USA) are showing similar form. A first and a second yesterday puts them nine points clear of second placed multiple Olympic medallist Ruslana TARAN (UKR).
In the Finn fleet Olympic silver medallist Rafa TRUJILLO leads the rankings with 23 pts after eleven races and in second place is Emilios PAPATHANASIOU (GRE) with Dan SLATER (NZL) in third. In the Star fleet there will be no catching Luca MODENA and Sergio LAMBERTENGHI (ITA) who have not finished outside the top three. Discarding their DNS from race eleven they have just 15 points ahead of second placed Henrik DANNESBOE HENRIK and Ramis FAYZULLIN (SUI) who have 41 points.
Racing continues today.
