Rien SEGAAR (NED)

Dutch Soling Sailor Rien SEGAAR died on his way with his crew, his son and a friend, to the 2005 Soling World Championships in Castiglione, Italy having been struck by a severe heart attack.

Rien was known throughout the world as the man that can fix everything on a boat. As a former International Measurer for the Soling, Rien knew everything there is to know about the Soling and how to get the parts just right.

The assembled Dutch soling sailors will commemorate Rien at the World Championships by sailing with a black ribbon.

Rien was also very closely involved in the International Vaurien Class, initially as a competitor and then as a technician and member of the Technical Committee. Since 1990 Rien held the role of an ISAF International Measurer for the class, and supported the Vaurien in measurement and in developing the class.

Rien's funeral will take place in Krommenie, The Netherlands on Wednesday 25 May 2005.

ISAF extends sincere condolences to Rien's wife and two sons, family and friends.
