Dan Jaspers
Dan Jaspers, ISAF Training and Development Manager, gives his rundown on what's to come in 2010

Training and Development News

ISAF Training and Development Manager Dan Jaspers and the Connect to Sailing Partners extend their Seasons Greetings to sailing fans worldwide and look forward to an exciting 2010.
Dan Jaspers, ISAF Training and Development Manager, says there's lots to look forward to over the next 12 months…

2009 has proved to be a really productive year for the Training and Development Department at ISAF. The success of the Connect to Sailing initiative has seen many of our Member National Authorities (MNAs) develop plans specifically aimed at growing sailing participation in their countries and through working with our Industry Partners we have given them the tools by which to do this. The ISAF Annual Conference in Korea was well attended and many potential ISAF MNAs came along to find out how to grow. We look forward to our 128 existing MNAs being joined by new countries in 2010. They are more than welcome to the ISAF family and we will all do our best to make them feel at home.

The Connect to Sailing logo

ISAF would like to thank the ISAF Connect to Sailing Partners for all of their ongoing support. All of our existing Partners have committed their support to Connect to Sailing for at least the next five years. This is a huge benefit to ISAF and all of our Member National Authorities. I look forward to working with you all in years to come.

2010 is shaping up to be even more exciting. ISAF now has all of the training resources required to help all of developing and developed MNAs achieve great success with their National Training Programmes.

MNA Sailing Instructor Training

Run under the name of Technical Courses for Coaches, this five-day course is aimed at training grass roots instructors capable of delivering beginner sessions that will keep the sailors interested and ultimately in our sport.

ISAF Trainers Workshops

These five-day workshops are run for those individuals that are already experienced Instructors and Senior Instructors who will be used by their sailing associations as key trainers to train future generations of instructors, enabling our MNAs to grow internally.

ISAF Training Scholarship

An eight-week residential course, based in Great Britain, which will take existing MNA Senior Instructors and Trainers and having been identified by their National Authorities as a future National Training Manager or Training Co-ordinator, will participate in a high level Training Programme. This will include all aspects of Monohull, Multihull, Windsurfing and Safety Boat coaching techniques and most importantly detailed workshops on how to set up and run sailing clubs and centres in their own MNAs.

ISAF Recognized Training Status

MNAs wishing to have their National Training Programmes recognized internationally can now apply to ISAF through a simple Inspection process. The RYA in Great Britain has already successfully completed this and France, UAE, South Africa, Iceland, Turkey, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and others have expressed a wish to be involved and are working with us on developing their National Programmes to this standard.

For an idea of where your MNA stands within this Structure please see the Training Flow Chart below.
