49er European Championship 2009
Zadar, Croatia

Italian brothers Pietro and Gianfranco Sibello are the new 49er European Champions, finishing top of the pile after a tough week of competition in Zadar, Croatia.
Italy's Pietro Sibello and Gianfranco Sibello took the title by 12 points thanks to a strong finish to the series and a second place in the Medal Race. The silver medal goes to Paul Brotherton and Mark Asquith from Great Britan and bronze to the Austrian team Nico Delle - karth and Nikolaus Resch.

After the 17th race for the gold and silver fleets in 16 knots of shifty northern breeze the top 10 teams for the Medal Race were decided. The Medal Race was sailed just in front of the club, the upwind mark was just some 10 meters from the shore, so many spectators were able to follow the race. Delle - Karth and Resch won the race to jump into third overall, knocking Emmanuel Dyen and Stéphane Christidis of France, leaders for much of the regatta, back into fourth overall. The Sibellos came in behind the Austrian team to secure the European title.
