49er European Championship 2009
Zadar, Croatia

Manu Dyen and Stephane Christidis of France took the initial lead after four races in Zadar, Croatia for the start of the 2009 49er European Championship.
Stéphane Christidis (FRA) commented that they had "beautiful conditions for sailing. We had a wonderful day - only in the first race we failed the start and after that pushed hard to finish seventh. The other three races we had a great start, great speed and three wins so it was a great day for us."

Sxity-four teams representing 19 countries are competing at the championship hosted by Sailing Club Uskok. After a spectacular opening ceremony in the town square Sunday evening, the sailors hit the water today with winds from the northwest slowly building from 10 to 14 knots during the afternoon. With such excellent conditions, the Race Committee opted to run four races for each fleet.

Austrians Nico Delle - Karth and Nikolaus Resch are in second with French sailors Morgan Lagravviere and Yann Rocherieux in third. Current ISAF World Ranking leaders Pietro Sibello and Gianfranco Sibello of Italy are in fourth.

Racing continues tomorrow for the qualifying series.
