G-Wizz at The Start

Haystack Island Race

Regular Sydney to Hobart Race contender, Rager, skippered by Garry Shanks has taken line honours today in the Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia's 200 mile Haystack Island Race.

Second was Geoff Boettcher's Secret Mens Business followed by G-Wizz sailed by Greg Patten. Vince Lamond's Spirit of Downunder in its first race in SA was in second position after rounding Haystack Island and Beatrice Island, before the headboard pulled out of the main and forced their retirement. The substantial lead built by the leaders was negated when a wind shift put them into a hole and the backmarkers picked up the 30-40knot wind accompanying the wind shift. Handicap placings went to the Northshore 38 Phoenix sailed by Andrew Saies, the Sydney Hobart contender Farr 40 Liberator sailed by G Catt and the Cavalier 395 Intrigue sailed by Geoff Common.

The Haystack Island Race is a qualfier for the Sydney Hobart Race.
