Coach the Coaches Clinic

International 470 Class Association News

Istanbul, Turkey

The International 470 Class Association in conjunction with the Istanbul Sailing Club is conducting a free 'Coach the Coaches Clinic'. The clinic is specifically designed for youth coaches but will be open to coaches of all ages of sailors and to all classes.

From the 29 June-3 July Istanbul, Turkey will be the venue for some genuine experts in the coaching world. Those attending the clinic will be able to hear from:

Victor KOVALENKO (AUS) - three time gold medal coach
Skip WHYTE (USA) - gold medal coach
Ilias MYLONAS (GRE) - gold medal coach
Hamish WILCOX (NZL) - silver medal coach and three time World Champion

Topics covered at the clinic will include:

planning a campaign
athlete fitness
managing sail and rig development
athlete mental training
regatta priorities
effective sailor feedback
campaigning away from home
regatta priorities
cost control
effective training
athlete stress management
managing female and male athletes
my typical training session

There will be free accommodation and food, transfers from the airport and access to club facilities.

With the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship in Busan, Korea from 14-23 July this year the clinic could be the ideal warm up for coaches heading to Korea.
