Soling World Championship 2005
Castiglione della Pescaia, Italy

As the first overseas teams arrive in Castiglione della Pescaia, Italy, rain is their first welcome at the Soling World Championship. This year's championship, from 20-27 May, hosts a larger fleet than any since 1998 and that number could still rise further.
The first overseas team to arrive in Italy was the American one of Stuart WAKER and Frances WAKER, towing their boat Duende. The Argentinean team of Martin BUSCH, Pablo NOCETI and Maximo FELDTAMN arrived late on Monday to a welcome from famous local sailor and Italian Soling Champion Domenico CARDUCCI. The Slovenian team arrived this morning under a lightening storm while part of another USA team and secretary of the International Soling Association, arrived late yesterday from Lake Balaton, Hungary after a successful Mercedes Gran Prix.

The Soling World Championship starts on 20 May and it looks possible that a fourth South American crew, from Argentina skippered by William HEINONEN, could join the event with arrangements being made to make the boat ready.

Half of the German fleet is expected to arrive today led by Herbert BALZER.

The forecast predicts better weather next week, when the majority of the racing will take place.
