Volvo Ocean Race
Cape Town, Sydney

Within Spitting Distance After two weeks at sea, the leaders in the Volvo Ocean Race are within earshot of each other. Less than a mile separates leaders illbruck and Team News Corp with 450 miles to go to Eclipse Island.
"What a race. We have just spent the night doing battle with illbruck. They are now about five boat lengths to leeward on the beam, They are so close we can here them easing sheets on their winches," explained ASSA ABLOY's bowman Jason Carrington earlier today.

The yachts are currently sailing in a 10-12 knot northwesterly breeze and making a similar speed to the waypoint.

Lisa McDonald's team on Amer Sports Too continue to be the fastest yacht in the fleet with an additional four knots of boat speed that is gradually eating away at their deficit, which is down to 378 miles.

Amer Sports One's Keith Kilpatrick, the center of attention for several days now, was well enough to speak to Volvo Ocean Race organizers earlier today. "Today's been quite a big improvement. I'm off the needle and taking drinks orally, which is pretty nice. In some way, shape or form I have done something to my intestines. Whatever the trouble was, it has partially subsided," he explained.
