Cagliari Grand Prix

Jean le Cam and his crew brilliantly win the Cagliari Grand Prix after a last day of racing full of adrenalin. Groupama takes over the second position overall from Fujifilm.
For the first time since the beginning of this Grand Prix, three races were sailed in the same day... enough to add some suspense as to who would climb on the podium. The last race was decisive between the three leaders : Bonduelle, Groupama and Fujifilm.

Bonduelle keeps the lead

Jean Le Cam and his crew almost finished brilliantly this last race of the Cagliari Grand Prix, as they led the fleet for more than half the course. Until a gennaker unfurled itself accidently and Belgacom passed them. Once fourth, and six times second... Bonduelle never won a race but was always among the leaders. Good tactics and a good upbeat capacity let her compensate for cautious starts. Bonduelle thus wins for the first time a Grand Prix of the 9 Telecom Championship. A promising performance, as the yellow multihull seems to be in progress still.

Groupama secures the second position

Before the last race, both Fujifilm (19 points) and Groupama (20 points) were candidates for the second step of the podium. To take it over, Groupama had to finish two positions ahead of her rival. Franck Cammas and his crew succeeded, but it was very close.
During the whole race, Groupama's skipper managed to have Foncia between him and Loïck Peyron... when in the last leg, Fujifilm almost caught up. As Groupama was about to cross the line, Alain Gautier and his crew did not put up much resistance to Fujifilm's comeback... At this very moment, Fujifilm is still second. This is the moment where Fila, starboard and sailing at full speed, passes Fujifilm on the line. Groupama wins the stakes.
This should not cast any shadow on Belgacom's win, finishing first twice today.
