The International Sailing Federation (ISAF) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) have authorized the International Foundation for Disabled Sailing (IFDS) to be responsible for disabled sailing in all forms throughout the world.
Reflecting the evolution of disabled sailing, IFDS has applied to the IPC for two additional sailing events for the 2008 Paralympics, and to ISAF for six World Championships.
In April 2006, the IPC will announce its decision about events on the 2008 Paralympic Programme. IPC decides whether to include two additional events, one additional event or no additional event for sailing.
At the 2005 IFDS Annual General Meeting, the IFDS Executive Board will announce its decision on the equipment to be used for any additional Paralympic event.
The IFDS Executive Board is committed to an open process of equipment selection. The IFDS is developing Equipment Selection Criteria for World and Paralympic Events.
Any allegation that the IFDS Executive Board prefers a particular class, or has a financial interest in a particular class, is unfounded. No person or body may imply endorsement of any product by IFDS and/or the IPC in any marketing or promotional campaign.
Personal opinions expressed by any member of the IFDS Executive Board should not be taken to reflect resolutions of the IFDS Executive Board.
The IFDS will continue to support classes interested in being selected for IFDS Events and the Paralympic Games and will work with any organization whose aims are consistent with the IFDS policy.
