Quantas Australian Grand Prix Sailing

18 Secondary Schools from across Australia were taking part in this the 6th annual Teams event run in conjunction with the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Melbourne.
While Schumaker was capsizing on the Race Track, the Sailors on Albert Park Lake were showing a bit more control during Friday's QANTAS Australian Grand Prix Sailing Regatta. In the closest ever Grand Prix Regatta Inter-Schools Teams Racing event 3 Schools finished tied on 6 wins each. Melbourne High School won in the narowest of countbacks to record their 3rd win in the 6 year history of this event. St Bede?s College Brighton was beaten into second with results of the Final heats. In third and only a further 2 points back were Ballarat Grammer School.

Kingscote Area School who drove 2 days to get to Melbourne for the event were favorites until the penultimate round when they lost a single race to Scotch College Melbourne. Despite registering a lower point score than the eventual winners The team from Kangeroo Island were rellegated to 4th overall.

Saturday and Sunday will see 200 boats take to the waters of Albert Park Lake for the Fleet Racing events in the 2001 QANTAS Australian Grand Prix Sailing Regatta.
