Greeks Ahead After Seven Races

470 Junior World Championship

Seven races have been completed at the 470 Junior World Championships in Istanbul, Turkey. Panagiotis Mantis and Theodoros Polyehronidis (GRE) lead, followed by Yosef Yogev and Amir Shahar (ISR) in second overall.

Race 5

The wind was northerly 6-9 knots. The wave conditions were 0,20-0,30 metres. There was a clear start 12:00 hours (first attempt). At the end of the windward leg two Spanish Barreriros and Padron were leading the fleet followed by Ukrainian Kalinchev. At the end of the second windward leg, Kalichev took the lead with German Ulrich and Greek Mantis following him. The finishing order was Greek Mantis, German Ulrich and Ukrainian Kalichev.

Race 6

The win was north easterly and 14 knots. The waves conditions were 0,50 metre. Yellow Flag application. A very high number of boats being over the line - General Recall. At the second attempt, the black flag applied. Clear start this time. At the end of the first windward leg Spanish Torres and Barreiros were leading closely followed by Slovenian Hmeljak. This first group leaded the race, at the last leg we have seen the aggressive attack of the Greek Mantis. Only two hundred meters from the finishing line Slovenian Hmeljak attack and finished first followed by Greek Mantis and Spanish Barreiros.

Race 7

The wind was north easterly 12-16 knots.The wave conditions were 0,50 metre. Start under flag I. Individual recalls for: Swiss Bermejo, French Charbonnier, Greek Orologas, Turkish Cinay and Greek Kabouridis. At the end of the first windward leg Turkish Peynirci was leading followed by Israel Yogev and Croate Nakrst. With the increasing wind speed, it was the best race of the championship. Finishing order was; Israel Yogev with a 250 meters to the second Turkish Peynirci and the third finisher was Greek Mantis. (subject to protest).
