The IMS European Offshore Championship held August 10 – 17 in Marstrand, Sweden, will be the biggest offshore race in northern Europe this year. As many as 58 yachts from 6 nations will participate.
The International Measurement System makes it possible for yachts of varying sizes to compete against each other. The competitors in Marstrand vary both as to size and proffessionality; from 32 feet to 60 feet and from happy amateurs to real pros.
The yachts will be divided into four groups according to size. The third of each group with the best results will qualify for the finals on Friday the 17th.
With nine IMX 40s and seven First 40.7s dominating their starting groups we look forward to exciting races and tough finals, say the organisers.
The Swedish Champion Pontus Elmér is sailing his ILC 40 Aquavit. The Norwegian alpine skier Lasse Kjus, winner of the alpine World Cup and five Worlds medals, is sailing a Grand Soleil 40. Is he changing careers?
