KIDS & RIBS at Southampton International Boat Show
The RYA, with the support of Honda UK, Avon Inflatables and Indespension Trailers, are staging two demonstration events at this year's Southampton International Boat Show to launch the Honda RYA National Youth RIB Championship.
- Friday 21 September - local school children will be demonstrating their skills on the RIB challenge course
- Saturday 22 September - teams from sailing clubs will have the opportunity to test their skills

Both demonstration events will be held in the RYA Demonstration Area adjacent to the Honda Viewing Area, with the presentation of prizes to commence after the challenge has been completed.

The event is for young people aged between 12 - 16 to put to the test their RIB handling talents in a competitive and fun event, which will consist of time trials around an on water obstacle course in Avon 4.5 m RIBs (rigid hulled inflatable boats) powered by Honda outboard engines.

This will provide an introduction and opportunity to see the event before the National Challenge starts next year. The competition in 2002 will be open to both boys and girls and the format will include local heats run through RYA-affiliated sailing and yacht clubs, and the winners will go on to fourteen regional heats and a National Final, which will be held at next year's Southampton Boat Show.
