Melbourne Hobart

In a race against time, the hot favourite Victorian boat expected to start line honours favourite for this year's Melbourne Hobart, was launched today at Mornington with just 9 days until the start of this year's bluewater classic.

The 14 meter sloop was christened 'Kontrol'. Its builder and crew have been flat out through the day installing a carbon fibre mast, and other equipment, to ready the craft for its first sail trials tomorrow.

Kontrol is the stretched former Melbourne Hobart line honours winner, Cadibarra 7, complete with 1.2 metres added to the bow, a new cockpit, new steering wheels and a modified hi tech mast.

The crew have only 5 days in which to complete a 150 nautical mile non-stop qualifying trip as well as tune the boat for the 480 mile race to Hobart, which starts from Portsea two days after Christmas.
