Breitling Trophy
Palma de Majorca

Report from the Breitling Trophy, a warm up event to the Coppa Del Ray IMS event taking place from 27 July - 5 August.
Twenty seven yachts raced for a "silver hat" prize to the winner of the overall classification, and two Breitling watches for the winners of the groups A and B in which the fleet is divided. The border between the groups is set as follows:

Group A, yachts with GPH<600 sec/mi and ILC<670 sec/mi
Group B, yachts with GPH>=595 sec/mi and ILC>=670 sec/mi
the same used in Copa del Rey and Spanish events.

4 windward/leeward races with all boats starting together.

First race of 8.4 miles, started Friday with shifty winds in the 12 knots range. A big shift in the first beat allowed smaller boats to make big gains. A second race was scheduled but after 3 general recalls with the starting line heavy favoured to the Committee boat, the RC decided to abandon the race.

On Saturday, two races in light winds were sailed, with 8-12 knots and very shifty winds. The first yacht of the overall classification, Andalucia solo hay Una, was found in the measurement inspection with the mainsail and spinnaker out of the values on the certificate, receiving a 50% positions penalty in the 3 races.

Last race on Sunday, with steady winds of 14 knots, decided the serie to Cam (Ex Esmeralda), who has won every event since her arrival to Spain, followed by a "surprising" Krazy K-Yote, Bribon, Caixa Galicia, Azur de Puig (al of them on the 50´range) and the firsts 40´, Zurich (Sinergia 40) and Ono (Nautatec 42).
