Races Four and Five completed at the Optimist World Championships, Qingdao, China.
Report 6 Thursday 19th 1900. WE HAVE A CHAMPIONSHIP!
The skills of our race officers managed a further two races today, the second by moving far into the harbour under a local monument tantalisingly known as 'May Breeze.'
Multiple premature starters mean that results are slightly delayed but rumours are that
Abdul Rahim and
Lucas Calabrese both won races and should be well placed.
The completion of five races means that, under IODA's six-division system, each sailor has sailed against each other sailor once, a requirement for the championship. Any additional races are a bonus. A discard will be taken if a sixth race is sailed.
Tomorrow Friday will be devoted to the
World Team Racing
Championship which wind conditions dictate what will be sailed this year
without repechage in a single match sudden-death format.
